GRAMMY® award-nominated and renowned poet SEKOU ANDREWS adds two (2) nominations to his growing list of awards from Independent Music Awards for the inspirational "BE VOICEFUL," which receives a nomination for "Best Spoken Word Song," and for his EP SEKOU ANDREWS & THE STRING THEORY, which snags a nod for "Best Spoken Word Album." Sekou joins a list of luminary nominees, including Lucinda Williams, Steven Van Zandt, and more.

The winning projects will be selected by influential judging panels including Tom Waits & Kathleen Brennan, Robert Smith, Ziggy Marley, KT Tunstall, Dee Snider, Drowning Pool, Roberta Flack, Jaci Velasquez, Coolio, Joshua Bell, Beth Gibbons, Joe Satriani and many more indie creatives, top recording artists and industry influencers.

SEKOU made history as the first contemporary Spoken Word poet to receive a "Best Spoken Word Album" GRAMMY® nomination in the category in twelve (12) years. His self-titled avant-garde 6-track offering, SEKOU ANDREWS & THE STRING THEORY, was nominated alongside Michelle Obama, The Beastie Boys, Eric Alexandrakis, and John Waters in the category that includes Poetry, Audio Books, and Storytelling.

"The feedback for Sekou Andrews & The String Theory has been humbling. When I first conceived of this project, I dreamt of being nominated for all kinds of awards, but as the nominations roll in, it blows my mind, and I am so thankful for the accolades," exclaims Sekou.

SEKOU ANDREWS & THE STRING THEORY, an album of poetry conceived and written by SEKOU and paired with a neo-classical, symphony orchestra called The String Theory, comprised of more than fifty (50) European and American musicians, has turned spoken word on its ear. The captivating nominated track, "BE VOICEFUL," finds SEKOU crafting an inspiring visual story about singing in the shower that, with a twist, invigorates your soul to do more in life, love, and more but mostly listen to your truth.
