Last week, James Harden and his non-profit 3 The Harden Way, the Kroger Company (NYSE: KR) and the Houston Food Bank announced their partnership to provide groceries to thousands of local families in need.
On Wednesday, teams of volunteers will fill donation boxes with nutritious groceries and produce at the Houston Food Bank in preparation for the second week of distribution at local pantries across Houston.
“We see families across Houston struggling to pay bills and feed their families,” said Joe Kelley, president of Kroger Houston division. “As a local grocer, feeding families is what we do best. Our partnership with 3 The Harden Way and the Houston Food Bank to fill the pantries of those in need during this critical time shows that together, we can make an impact in the fight against hunger.”
Five thousand families will receive $100 of fresh groceries including pantry staples, produce and fresh meat. The groceries will be distributed over an 8-week timeframe.
