Today, Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, Brownsville Mayor Trey Mendez, Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales, and State Representative Victoria Neave held a Todos con Biden Charla in Texas on Joe Biden’s Agenda for the Latino Community. They discussed how Joe’s plan would build back our economy following the COVID-19 pandemic and how Biden will address the disparities in health care and education in the Latino community.
“As a local elected official, it’s been hard, we’ve had to work with a lack of support from the federal government and face proactive actions that keep us from doing good work...The rhetoric coming from the White House has instilled fear in the Latino community,” said Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo. “Vice President Joe Biden is advocating for equitable health care access, for environmental protection, for equitable access to education transportation, and small business support. I couldn’t be prouder to be a part of this team."
“It’s about kindness, humility and empathy. I've always said the city of Brownsville’s greatest asset is our people and I would say the same thing about our Latino community,” said Brownsville Mayor Trey Mendez. “It is time to turn Texas blue and it is time to turn the U.S. blue again. It's time to show up to the polls and time to show up for Joe Biden.”
“We are in a healthcare crisis in Nueces County with COVID-19, but we were in a healthcare crisis before,” said Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales. “Nueces County shares all the issues that belong in the Latino Agenda that I’ve seen Joe Biden put forward...My big concern is how can I help small government, when we’re struggling to keep ourselves afloat, how can we continue these services? So I think that an emphasis in small business is a high priority to Joe Biden, it's a high priority to South Texas.”
“As Latinos in Texas, our numbers are rising, and our numbers that vote are increasing every cycle. We have the ability to change the trajectory of our nation. We can correct the course of history and do everything that we can by getting folks to turnout,” said Texas State Representative Victoria Neave. “This is the year when there is so much at stake. So much on the line. We as a Latino community in Texas can help really change and correct the course of history.”
