In Aftermath of Hurricane Laura,Kroger is stepping in to help support communities in recovery.

Kroger announced today that more than 100 stores in the Houston area are open and Kroger associates are ready to serve customers and communities, and the company is also taking steps to provide much needed supplies to the areas of Beaumont and Lake Charles impacted by the effects of Hurricane Laura and mandatory evacuations.

With five stores located in communities devastated by the storm, Kroger is working round the clock with local partners including the American Red Cross, City of Beaumont, Sulfur, Lake Charles, local Food Banks and Office of Emergency Management to bring in truckloads of water and supplies to support those communities and first responders in recovery efforts. They are also setting up community relief events with vendor partners to help provide meals and supplies for those in need.

“We are thankful we were able reopen the majority of our stores in the Houston area this morning, and much of Houston was spared the devastating effects of Hurricane Laura,” said Joe Kelley, President of Kroger, Houston. “However, several of our local communities and neighbors including Orange, Lake Charles, Port Arthur and Beaumont have been badly affected. We want them to know we are here to help – we will continue to provide support to emergency crews and families as they recover.”

Kroger recently donated $500K to the American Red Cross to support local disaster relief. Customers can help too by rounding up their total to the nearest dollar at checkout, with proceeds benefiting the American Red Cross.

Kroger’s mobile pharmacy trailer will also be stationed at the closed stores to help provide prescription medication during the recovery from Hurricane Laura. Details on these locations will be shared on Kroger social media and local news stations in the coming days.
