On Friday, December 4, 2020, Congressman Al Green (TX-09) released the following state- ment announcing his chairmanship of Texas’ Democratic Congressional Delegation for the 117th Congress:

“As the incoming Chair of the Texas Congressional Delegation, I look forward to serving alongside my colleagues as we collectively commit to serving all Texans. I thank outgoing Chair, Congressman Joa- quin Castro, who contributed valuable, insightful leadership over this tumultuous year. I thank him and the full delegation for their support of my taking up the mantle for the 117th Congress,” Houston-area Congressman Al Green stated. “As we prepare for the next session of Congress, there are several key issue areas – including infrastructure, judicial appointments, and regional taskforces – I look forward to focusing on for our state. I am eager to collaborate with my colleagues and work to ensure that democracy as well as the core ideals of our republic are prioritized for Texas and for America.”

Members of the Texas Democratic Congres- sional Delegation provided the following comments regarding the announcement of Congressman Green’s chairmanship.

Outgoing Chair of the Delegation, Congress- man Joaquin Castro (TX-20): “Congressman Green is a longstanding champion for the people of Houston, nd I’m confident he will be a great chairman of the Texas Democratic Congressional Delegation. I look forward to working together in the 117th Congress and continuing to advance meaningful progress.”

Dean of the Texas Delegation, Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (TX-30): “Texas is a proud state — blessed with a growing, diverse population and constituency with different expectations from Mem- bers who represent them in Congress. Congressman Al Green’s newly appointed role by his colleagues as the Texas House Democratic Congressional Chairmanship comes at a critical juncture in history of our State and the Nation.
