ATLANTA, GA — Three prominent Georgia political leaders today announced their support of Democratic presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg. Endorsing Bloomberg today are Georgia State Representative Derrick Jackson, Georgia State Representative William Boddie, and former Camilla, Georgia Mayor Rufus Davis, who all cite Mike’s record of taking on tough fights and winning as a reason for their endorsement.

“Mike Bloomberg is everything Trump is not, he built a career based on steady leadership and has dedicated his life to doing all he can to solve the world’s most urgent problems, from gun violence to education,” said Georgia State Representative Derrick Jackson. “As president, Trump has been recklessly ignoring science and sowing division in our country — and we need a nominee who can defeat him. I know that with his record, Mike will get it done, and that’s why I’m supporting his candidacy.”

“Mike Bloomberg has consistently been one of the top philanthropists in American history and has pledged the majority of his wealth to charity,” said former Camilla, Georgia Mayor Rufus Davis. “He has successfully fought the NRA, defended our environment, fought to end cash bail, fought for a $15 minimum wage, and has allocated billions to reduce the incarceration of men of color. Moreover, he can beat Trump. For these reasons, he is my unequivocal choice for President of the United States.”

Georgia State Representative Derrick Jackson represents Georgia’s 64th district in the Georgia General Assembly, covering most of Fayette County. He is a 22-year military officer veteran (U.S. Navy), a corporate general manager, adjunct professor, entrepreneur, non-profit board member. Known for his determination, enthusiasm, keen work ethic, integrity, and strong commitment to his constituents, Rep. Jackson is a highly respected leader in his community.

Georgia State Representative William Boddie represents the 62nd district in the Georgia General Assembly, covering portions of Douglas and Fulton Counties. He is actively involved in professional organizations such as the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (GACDL), the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association (GTLA) and the Cobb County Bar Association. He is also a member of the South Fulton Chamber of Commerce (SFCOC), the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce, the Douglas County Small Business Society, the City of Douglasville Housing Committee and the Douglas County Democratic Party. Rep. Boddie is also part of various community service organizations and boards.

Rufus Davis is the former mayor of Camilla, Georgia, he was elected as the first African American male to hold the position in November 2015. Davis received his Bachelors from the University of Michigan and Juris Doctor from Rutgers Law. During his undergraduate and graduate years he studied at the University of Economics in Prague, Czech Republic and Leiden University Faculty of Law in the Netherlands. Davis is known for boycotting his own city council to protest segregation, racism, and alleged financial irregularities. In December 2017, national civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump represented Rufus Davis and a newly-elected city councilman, Venterra Pollard, in demanding that the city of Camilla remove a 4-foot fence in the city-owned cemetery that separated Blacks and Whites.

The Bloomberg campaign is working to earn the support of Democratic primary voters across Georgia. To date, the campaign has placed nearly 80 staff members on the ground. The Georgia campaign currently has offices open in Atlanta, Macon, Savannah and Decatur with plans to open 4 more across the state ahead of the March 24th primary.
