Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. women around the globe are mourning the loss of Faye Beverly Bryant, 21st International President, and legendary Houston ISD educator. Bryant passed on Thursday, February 20, 2020.

Initiated into the sorority in 1955 in the Alpha Chapter on the campus of Howard University, Byrant served as the international president of the first Black Greek sorority from 1982-1986. Her administration theme of P.O.W.E.R. called for the sorority to have women focus on global concerns, economic development, and renewal. She created Connection, finished the sorority's national headquarters and introduced the African Village Development Program with Africare. In addition to the above noteworthy accomplishments, Bryant also helped to established the Epsilon Lambda Chapter at the University of Houston and was also the graduate advisor to the Gamma Psi Chapter at Texas Southern University.

Before rising to the top of her sorority, she was elevating up the ladder in Houston ISD. Her career began as a teacher at Booker T. Washington High School and she went on to be a counselor at Bellaire High School and Director of Magnet Schools for the district. Bryant would make history as the first African American female Deputy Superintendent for School Administration for Houston ISD. Later in 2002, she would retire as Executive Deputy Superintendent after a 42 year career.

A celebration of life service for Bryant is scheduled for this weekend. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., Links, Inc., Houston ISD, political leaders, and other dignitaries are expected to be in attendance.

Please keep the Bryant family and friends in your prayers.
