NAACP URGES VOTER AWARENESS IN HARRIS COUNTY PRECINCT 3

The Houston NAACP is a vanguard for justice, equality and anti- discriminate in this region. We stand against racism and bigotry in every form. This is why we deem it our obligation to bring attention to candidate Ken Jones, in the race to become the Constable in Harris County Precinct 3.

It was brought to the attention of the NAACP that the 80-year old, Ken Jones, is the former Constable, shown in a photo of himself with a Hangman’s Noose! This is reported by the Houston Press and other publications.

The NAACP denounces all expressions associated with racism. Certainly, the hangman’s noose that Ken Jones is photographed with is a symbol of racial violence. It was the object used for lynching Blacks during and after slavery. Unfortunately, there are people who still identify with these symbols and are unmoved by the pain and suffering associated with them. They are also not concerned with how offensive they are to Blacks and all Americans who denounce racism, crimes of hate and bigoted violence.

The NAACP does not believe that this mindset belongs in any public office, especially in law enforcement. This is why elections and voting is important. At a time when racial tension is escalating, we don’t need leaders who take us backwards. We need people who will help us heal and move forward.

We urge all citizens in Precinct 3 to be informed, to be aware and be sure to vote in the Run- Off Election on Tuesday, July 14, 2020.
