Statement on Gulf Greyhound Park's Closure, End of Greyhound Racing
Style Magazine Newswire | 7/1/2020, 4:59 p.m.
The Gulf Greyhound Park has officially closed which will likely result in the end of greyhound racing in the State of Texas.
Animal Wellness Action has been working to ban greyhound racing in the U.S. along with our partner Grey2K USA Worldwide. They successfully banned greyhound racing in Florida in 2018 through passage of a voter ballot initiative.
In 2019, they worked to achieve a phase-out of greyhound racing in Arkansas, and they applauded the end of greyhound racing in the State of Alabama earlier this year, which was covered by People Magazine.
Statement on the closure of Gulf Greyhound Park from Wayne Pacelle, president of Animal Wellness Action:
"Greyhound racing is inhumane, unprofitable, and boring. The shutdown of racing in Texas is great news for dogs, and with tracks in Arkansas, Florida, and Iowa set to close in the near future, West Virginia is the nation's only hold-out."
