Today, the state of Texas broke yet another record of new positive COVID-19 cases in the state, with 6975 new cases, almost 1000 more than the previous record of 5996.

Texas Democratic Party Communications Director Abhi Rahman issued the following statement:

“The record breaking amount of cases is yet again Governor Abbott’s responsibility -- a Governor who has buried his head in the sand and refuses to implement common-sense policies like a statewide mask mandate. Enough is enough, if Governor Abbott cares about the people of Texas, he’ll make concrete actions such as mandatory facemasks a law rather than waiting until this crisis gets even worse.

“Texas is in the midst of a full-blown crisis that Republicans created. States that followed the advice of doctors and public health experts are not seeing the massive spike we Texans are experiencing. Now is a time for clear, direct, honest leadership - something Greg Abbott and his Texas Republican Party have been unable to muster as of yet.”
