Choosing between paying the rent and ensuring there’s food on the table isn’t a choice that Harris County families should have to make. As we continue to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, including the economic fallout, Commissioner Rodney Ellis is committed to helping working families have access to food.
That is why Precinct One and Harris County are extending their agreement with the Houston Food Bank to provide meals for low-income people and seniors in Harris County through December 30. This critical partnership will provide 4.3 million pounds of food to Harris County residents every month.
“COVID-19 has not gone away, and neither has the need for critical services like the food distribution that the Houston Food Bank provides,” Commissioner Ellis said. “I am glad that we are extending this partnership to ensure that Harris County residents do not go hungry. We must continue to provide relief to our most vulnerable residents during these difficult times.”
During this crisis, food assistance has been one of the highest requests from Harris County residents. As the unemployment rate in Harris County remains high, particularly among communities of color, Precinct One is committed to protecting those who are struggling to make ends meet.
