MCTX CDBG Applications Now Available for: Scholarships ǀ Housing Rehabilitation Projects & Public Service Agency Grants; Deadline is July 3

Missouri City’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Post- Secondary Educational & Vocational Scholarship Applications are now available.

As part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) CDBG Program, the scholarship program provides reimbursement for qualified expenses to current Missouri City residents who are classified as low- to moderate-income and are enrolled in community college, university or vocational programs.

“This program awards funding to high school students who are graduating in 2020 and entering post-secondary institutions and/or full time undergraduate enrollees in post-secondary institutions,” said Development Services Director Otis Spriggs. “This program accomplishes one of the City’s Consolidated Plan priority goals, which is Education of Youth and Adults.”

Missouri City’s annual Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Applications for projects beginning October 1, 2020 are now available.

The funds, which are granted through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), target programs and/or projects geared toward assisting low and moderate-income persons by providing decent housing, a suitable living environment, and expanding economic opportunity. Programs and projects must meet HUDs National objectives and criteria to be eligible. The City’s Consolidated Plan has established the following five priority areas for CDBG funds:

§ Education of youth and adults

§ Health and welfare services for children

§ Senior/adult services

§ Disabled population services

§ Homeless services

The City of Missouri City’s estimated CDBG allocation for PY 2020-2021 is approximately $296,662. Funding for public service activities is capped at 15% of the City’s annual allocation.

Missouri CDBG Owner-Occupied Housing Rehabilitation Program Applications are now available.

The HUD initiative provides federal funds to assist low- and moderate-income Missouri City homeowners with rehabilitation projects. The program offers financial assistance through grants of up to $12,000 to qualified low-income homeowners, allowing them to complete minor home repairs. To be considered for assistance, an applicant must meet the specific criteria as described in the application. This program accomplishes one of the City’s Consolidated Plan high priority goal which is housing rehabilitation.

Objectives of the Missouri City Owner-Occupied Housing Rehabilitation Program are:

§ To prevent hazardous health conditions and code violations in owner-occupied homes.

§ To prevent the deterioration of property and neighborhoods.

§ To improve the quality of the owner-occupied housing stock for low- and moderate-income persons.

§ To provide financial assistance to low- and moderate-income persons for housing rehabilitation activities.
