The City of Prairie View is on schedule to have its “Black Lives Matter” street mural completed today. Several Prairie View A&M University students—undergraduate and graduate—joined faculty and staff from the School of Architecture’s Fabrication Center to bring Mayor David Allen’s idea to reality.
By the end of Day 1, the volunteers completed painting the northbound lanes of the street mural on University Blvd, or Sandra Bland Parkway. The southbound lanes are being painted today. Mayor Allen chose this location as a permanent mural because it was where Sandra Bland was arrested in 2015.
Each letter of the design stands 12-feet wide by 19-feet tall.
