Today, Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott held a press briefing in front of a few select outlets where he admitted that cases in Texas are spreading at an “unacceptable rate.”

Under Abbott’s failed leadership, Texas has now seen ten days in a row with rising cases and hospitalizations in Texas.

Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:

“For months, Texas Democrats warned Republican Governor Abbott that rushing back into the way things were before the coronavirus without listening to medical professionals and scientists would be deadly. Instead, the governor decided to listen to his fringe right-wing base over the advice of medical experts.

“Now, Texans' lives are at risk. Thousands are in the hospital. Isolated from their families. Terrified and alone in a hospital bed. Millions have lost their jobs. They don’t know how they will pay rent or put food on the table. Everyone made sacrifices to stop the spread of this virus.

“We’re left wondering what our suffering was for when our governor turns his back on those who are desperate and dying, refuses to offer solutions, and continues to lie about this pandemic. In every single way, by every single metric, Governor Abbott and Republicans have failed.

“Texans need a government—from the White House to the Texas Legislature—that will act upon the truth and protect us. Leaders who will restore and expand on the American values that Trump and Abbott exploited.”
