On Wednesday, March 18, 2020, Congressman Al Green released the following statement regarding the Senate’s passage of the second coronavirus relief package:
After a 90-8 Senate vote, Congressman Al Green announced, “I am pleased to learn of the Senate’s vote to provide relief funding for the American public in the wake of the coronavirus crisis. Originally drafted and passed in the House of Representatives, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act offers paid emergency leave, free testing, and unemployment benefits to individuals affected by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).”
The Houston Congressman went on to say, “As we anticipate the President signing this bill into law and seeing it provide much needed emergency assistance across Ameri- ca, we must continue working to ensure that help is afforded to the people who need it most. With discussions of a stimulus package that could provide direct assistance to the public, we must consider tip and wage workers, small businesses owners, and persons who are unhoused among other vulnerable groups of our population.” He added, “This is an unprecedented crisis that requires an unprecedented response. During this tumultuous time, we must continue to work to promote the general welfare of ALL Americans as the Preamble of our Constitution calls us to do.”
