Tomorrow, May 19th at 12:00 pm ET, the African American Research Collaborative (AARC) in partnership with the NAACP and the Equity Research and Innovation Center (ERIC) at Yale School of Medicine will present new polling detailing the impacts of the Coronavirus pandemic on African American communities. Given that COVID-19 is having a disproportionate impact on black Americans across a range of indicators - infection rates, deaths, unemployment, access to care, access to education, etc. - this is the first national poll to take a deep dive into how African Americans are responding.

Among the topics explored in the poll:

-Do African Americans plan to vote or do they plan to stay home because of the health risk of COVID-19?

-Do African Americans believe Trump’s responses are effective or a threat?

-Did reopening begin only once it became clear a high percentage of black people are among those dying?

-Are hospitals doing all they can to save the lives of black patients?

-Is online distance education working for black families with children?

-Do African Americans believe police will fairly enforce social distancing rules and are protesters at re-open rallies treated differently because of their race?

-Who do black people trust most to provide accurate information?

-Do African Americans feel safe wearing masks in public?

-What are the consequences for employment, housing, education, policing, and health care?

AARC polled a large national sample of African Americans and developed the questions in consultation with a group of leading African American university based scholars from the fields of public health, law, education, political science, and sociology.
