With cases of COVID-19 rising in Harris County, we are erring on the side of caution to protect our patrons, artists, and staff. It is with heavy hearts that we must announce the cancellation of this year’s in-person production of A Christmas Carol. We understand this is disappointing news as we were looking forward to reuniting with you this holiday season.

We are excited, however, to announce that we will produce a digital production of A Christmas Carol, presented by ConocoPhillips, that the Alley will provide as a free gift to the entire Houston area! A Christmas Carol will be available to view online from December 4 to December 27, 2020. To view the digital production of A Christmas Carol, patrons must register on the Alley Theatre’s website at alleytheatre.org. Registration opens October 28, 2020. A private link will be sent closer to the opening date.

This year’s production of A Christmas Carol is a new adaptation by Doris Baizley and will be directed by Associate Producer & Casting Director Brandon Weinbrenner. It is a highly inventive, digital adaptation of the Dickens classic, pared down to its essential elements. A resident company of actors assemble online to perform a new production of the heartwarming Christmas story. With two actors missing and everyone performing from home, creating a magical world of holiday make-believe is no easy feat. The socially distanced troupe brings this holiday classic to imaginative new heights. It will be A Christmas Carol like no other.

The Alley Theatre will also host its annual Deck the Trees event at the George R. Brown Convention Center this season. The spectacularly decorated trees will be on display in the windowscape of the George R. Brown Convention Center for all Houstonians, visitors, and their families to enjoy this holiday season. The trees will be on display from November 21, 2020 through January 3, 2021.

This special production will be made possible through the generous support of our Presenting Sponsor, ConocoPhillips. While the holidays will look different this season, the Alley is committed to bringing Houston’s favorite holiday traditions to life in new and inventive ways. It is our hope that more Houstonians will have access to witness the magic of twinkling Christmas trees and the transformation of Scrooge.

If you had previously purchased tickets to this year’s production, an Alley Box Office representative will be in touch to discuss your options.
