Jada Marie Johnson becomes the 88th Miss Prairie View A&M University*. The Fort Worth, Texas native bested five competitors to earn the crown in the most unique competition ever in the scholarship pageant. The pandemic forced the postponement of the pageant from April to Wednesday, September 23rd. Organizers revamped the format, instituted COVID-19 safety measures, and worked with the PVAMU Center for Instructional Innovation and Technology Services (CIITS) to deliver a virtual pageant last night. The pageant streamed on YouTube, and winners were revealed on Instagram and Twitter.
“Seeing my picture and name pop up overwhelmed me with emotions of excitement and appreciation. As Miss Prairie View A&M University 2020-2021, I look forward to connecting with the student body, faculty and staff, and the community of Prairie View. I also look forward to implementing my platform, "From the Ashes, We will Rise; Beauty and Strength," targeting self-worth and self-motivation through trials and tribulations. I am humbled, honored, and blessed to represent Prairie View A&M University,” shared Johnson, a senior agriculture major concentrating in animal science.
Joshua Lewis, a senior, bested three others to become Mr. Prairie View A&M University 2020-2021.
“The support I received from my friends, family, and the student body was just amazing. Waiting for the results was intense, but once I saw my name appear as the new Mr. PV, I could do nothing but run around in my room and outside my dorm room, yelling and screaming with my friends. I look forward to making a difference in the student body, despite our circumstances, through my platform Prairie View Elevate At All Times, or PVEAAT, which focuses on us, as the student body, elevating despite our circumstances. I’m ready to see PVEAAT this year,” said Lewis.
PVAMU advisors will work with both winners to navigate through their reigns during the pandemic.
“I know that this year will be challenging and filled with new ways to produce programs, cultivate leadership skills, and empower the Royal Court to achieve their goals outside their box in this new norm,” shared Charles Lewter, associate director for Student Engagement and advisor for Mr. PVAMU.
“The role of Miss Prairie View A&M University is for the young woman who demonstrates intelligence, dignity, grace, and tenacity. Jada Johnson possesses all of those qualities and more,” said Chelsee Young, co-advisor to Miss PVAMU. “We look forward to a successful school year working with her."
