Staycation at The Renovated Hyatt Regency Houston
STAYCATIONS ARE HAUTE: A staycation, or holistay, is a period in which an individual or family stays in their city and participates in leisure activities within day trip distance of their home.

As the world continues to open back up – as safely as possible – many are looking to escape the worries of last year by traveling to a destination other than home. And since many are still unsure about travel via air (...and understandably so), in-city ‘staycations’ are a cost-efficient desirable option for you to consider. Or perhaps, if you live in a neighboring city to Houston – come on over, the food and hospitality is like no other!
It is well known that the hotel industry took a big hit during the pan- demic, but for the Hyatt Regency Down- town Houston – a premiere destination for both business and leisure travelers – they actually took advantage of the pandemic situation with a multi-million dollar renovation project.
Lucky for me, I was able to finally leave the house and spend a much-needed getaway weekend at the Hyatt Regency Downtown Houston. Having visited the hotel numerous times to attend various luncheons and galas, I was pleasantly surprised at the new fresh, modern look of the lobby and its’ infamous 30-story atrium. The fluidity of the new design made for a welcoming check-in.
In the rooms, the newly updated color palette of blues and grays appeal to today’s modern traveler, whether for business or leisure. My corner room offered a spacious layout with stunning views of Houston’s Downtown life. I thoroughly enjoyed looking at the sky- line while lounging in my plush bed and sipping on a glass of champagne. Cheers to me and the Hyatt Regency Downtown Houston!
If you are wanting to perhaps host an intimate dinner party, then the Grande Suite is for you. The two-story suite, with the bedroom along with a beautiful spa-like bathroom, being up- stairs, has a formal living/dining room for all your entertainment needs. For all of those social media ‘creatives’ out there, the curved staircase in this suite makes for a great photo shoot opportu- nity – especially for any brides to be.
Ok, so back to my mini get- away! Before dinner, I met up with a guest on the first floor at the LobbiBar, the focal point of the hotel’s atrium. Although the lobby is quite grand, the bar’s new design concept consisting of slated blonde wood canopies, an ode to Marfa installations, makes for a setting for intimate conversation while sipping on signature cocktails. The Knob Creek Fashion and the Prickly Pear Bon & Viv were a personally favorite – trust me I have great taste! And while the hotel’s signature restaurant, Shula’s Steak- house, was not open when I visited, the LobbiBar offers lite bites for your late- night cravings. For your early morning must-have coffee and bagels, there is an on-site Einstein Brother’s Bagels that is open for business.
The Hyatt Regency Downtown Houston is conveniently located near Houston’s top sports venues, including the Toyota Center and Minute Maid Park along with Discovery Green, a vibrant 12-acre park with walking trails, a dog-park, children’s playground, fountains and more. In addition, the George R Brown Convention Center is also located within walking distance the hotel’s vicinity, making the Hyatt Regency Downtown Houston – a premiere meeting hotel.
So, what are you waiting for? Pack your bag and book your next staycation at Hyatt Regency Downtown Houston.
