Growing up in a town of 2,600, Summer Nilsson learned the art of a good tale in East Texas. For Nilsson, her small-town roots formed a life-long appreciation for animals, kindness and a cup of Sonic ice.
“The inspiration for the Loodor Tales book series began with my hometown and my 12-year-old nieces,” Nilsson explained. “As an aunt, my job has always been to listen. It’s sometimes easier to ask an outsider (non-parent) the big questions. For years, I’ve tried to share life lessons. My nieces were open to the content but not the context. They wanted the information to be presented differently. They needed it to be on their terms.”
Loodor aims to entertain with premium content that invokes thought, inspires communication and fuels creativity. The platform will be used to spread a message of positivity, underscore the power of one's voice and reinforce kindness, beginning with books. The Loodor Tales book series follows Grey the Kitten on her journey to discover “Hoo” she is and how she can help others. The series launches with the first book, The Land of the Pines.
The Land of the Pines begins with Grey’s birth at the Jam Barn of Black Mountain Farm. With the guidance of her mentor, Miss Jay the Bird, Grey senses that she’s meant to be more than a barn cat. But Grey isn’t the only one with ideas about her future. The Black Widow and her guiding Hourglass have big plans for the farm, and Grey could be their key to controlling the whole mountain. When the Widow traps Grey in a web of promises, Grey must find the inner strength to speak up and forge her own path.
“Each book in the Loodor Tales series will present a central theme,” Nilsson shared. “The Land of the Pines focused on identity and the gift of empathy. I hope to connect a younger generation to the transformative nature of intention and encourage kids to become their best and most authentic selves.”
A portion of sales from Loodor products will benefit organizations that work to place sheltered animals in forever homes through Nilsson’s 501(c)(3), the Open A Dor Foundation. Additionally, Nilsson printed advanced copies of The Land of the Pines to gift hospitals and children’s organizations, an initiative she will continue through corporate partnerships.
“By creating a series with animal characters, I created an authentic platform and foundation from which to give back,” Nilsson concluded. “We’re all connected. Plus, who doesn’t love the idea of a kitten being carried around in a cup by a deer?”
