The mindset that I believe everyone should be thankful for as we begin a journey into the New Year is to remember that it aint where you are from. It’s where you are at. For Houston Rockets PF/C Christian Wood, he lives that out every time he puts on a Rockets uniform.

“I’m happy to be here in Houston,” a smiling Wood said after the Rockets secured their first win of the season over the Sacramento Kings on New Year’s Eve. “I’m playing with two All-Star guards [James Harden and John Wall], and I have Boogie [DeMarcus Cousins] helping me out. … I’ve been saying it all along, the sky’s the limit.”

Wood, 25, has made quite an impact in the first three games in a Rockets uniform. After going undrafted in 2015 and bouncing throughout the NBA’s developmental league and some brief stints with some NBA teams, the former UNLV player finally has a place where he feels wanted with the Rockets.

On Thursday, Wood (21 points) joined an elite group of players that included Connie Hawkins and Moses Malone, both who are in the NBA Hall of Fame, as the only undrafted players since 1960 to score 20-plus points in their first three regular season games in the NBA.

Although its early in the season, Wood is putting up great numbers. He is averaging 25.0 points and 9.3 rebounds in 37.3 minutes of action on the floor. He currently leads all players in his position (Power Forward) in scoring. A list that includes former NBA All-Stars such as Jayson Tatum (Celtics), Giannis Antetokounmpo (Bucks), and Anthony Davis (Lakers).

Houston will be back in action on Saturday as they will play their second home game against the Sacramento Kings at 4:00pm cst.
