Council Member Edward Pollard has partnered with The Players Alliance, a nonprofit organization comprised of more than 150 active and former Major League Baseball Players, for a drive-up food and baseball equipment distribution event that will help improve the access of the game of baseball to young people in underserved communities. The event is part of a two-month, cross-country tour to provide access to and education about baseball as well as much-needed food provisions for hundreds of families (while supplies last). The Players Alliance is providing free youth baseball equipment because they recognize youth baseball is expensive. Therefore, to increase participation for minority families who may not have money to buy equipment, especially during an economic downturn due to the pandemic, they are providing it for free. This important initiative will help aid communities of color in a safe, socially distant, and responsible capacity. Members of the Houston community will be provided with much-needed COVID-19, food and baseball resources.
