One of the world’s largest providers of products and services to the energy industry has donated $1 million to Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) to produce new scholarships for students. The Halliburton Business and Engineering Scholarship Fund, created by Halliburton (NYSE: HAL), will go towards eligible juniors and seniors at PVAMU majoring in accounting, management information systems, finance, and engineering.

“This fund is an opportunity for Halliburton to support Prairie View A&M and deepen our diversity and inclusion mission while building our pipeline of future talent,” said Halliburton Chairman, President, and CEO Jeff Miller. “We are excited to support PVAMU and the outstanding students in the College of Business [COB] and [Roy G. Perry] College of Engineering, as well as building on our historical success with the Texas A&M University System.”

During the first year, eight PVAMU students will receive scholarships from the Houston-based company valued at $12,500 each. During the next four years, Halliburton will award 16 additional scholarships each year valued at the same amount. Students can renew the scholarship for two years (or up to four semesters), and they will have to participate in Halliburton’s RISE and summer intern programs.

Their provision of scholarships, mentoring, and internships for Halliburton Scholars will greatly enhance these students’ prospects for successful careers,” said Prairie View A&M University President Ruth J. Simmons.

Our programs and graduates in accounting, finance, and information systems are among the best,” said PVAMU COB Dean Munir Quddus. “On behalf of students and faculty in the COB, I want to express my gratitude to the leadership team at Halliburton. This type of engagement between academe and industry goes a long way in influencing faculty research that leads to new management theories and practices.”
