Houston is known for many things, like space travel, petroleum exploration and even capital punishment. But did you know it’s also an amazing place to play a round of golf?

Get your golf apparel on and head out the door. Here are our favorite local golf courses you should visit in Houston!

Memorial Park Golf Course

Memorial Park Golf Course is a high-calibre course, made even more special by the fact that greats like Jack Nicklaus, Babe Didrikson Zaharias and Arnold Palmer have spent time there. It’s also the home course of the Houston Open, but it’s open to the public for an extremely affordable fee.

It consists of two courses. The Memorial Park Golf Course is a 600-acre, 18-hole course that includes a fully-lit driving range, putting and chipping greens and beautiful clubhouse facilities.

The Sharpstown Park Golf Course, known to be Houston’s best value golf course, is an 18-hole, par-70 course that provides a challenge for beginners and pros alike.

Wildcat Golf Club

The Wildcat Golf Club consists of two courses: the Highlands Course and the Lakes Course.

If you like a links-style game, the Highland is for you, although you will find wide, sleek fairways and elevation changes to challenge you. There are spectacular views of the city, including the NRG Stadium and downtown. Don’t get distracted, though - every hole is a challenge, so keep your hat on and your eyes on the hole!

The Lakes is one of the most visually stunning courses you’ll find. It’s loaded with water, making it an extreme challenge for beginners and an exciting play for more advanced golfers.

Moody Gardens Golf Course

Moody Gardens is a beautiful seaside course that caters for golfers of all skill levels with 5 sets of tees.

One of the notable features of this course is that it uses Paspalum grass, which is a salt-tolerant type of grass that ensures an excellent playing surface. It also features close to 500 palm trees, which gives it a lovely tropical atmosphere.

Pristine fairways, interesting elevations, and stunning views of the Sydnor Bayou make this a worthwhile course to play.

Be aware that they have a no-cash policy, so take your credit card along.

Black Horse Golf Club

Two 18-hole courses meander through a variety of different landscapes, making this an exciting and beautiful golf club. Walk through majestic trees, circle lakes and play through wetlands for a well-rounded and natural experience.

The North Course is set in a unique wetlands environment, while the South Course features a sand quarry to challenge even the most accomplished golfers.

Six tee sets make it easy for golfers of all abilities to enjoy a round here.

Tour 18

If you only have time to visit one course while you’re in Houston, we recommend Tour 18. It’s a fun, exciting, and challenging experience, but not for the reasons you may think.

Every hole on this unique course has been modeled after a famous hole on a renowned American golf course. Golf fans will love the experience of playing on some of the most well-known holes across the country, including Augusta National hole 12, TPC Sawgrass hole 17 and Disney Magnolia hole 6.

Not only can you play some amazing golf, but you can also have high-class experiences like a "Tour Player Experience", which includes a round of golf, complimentary meals, beverages, and snacks, and a private practice area.

They also offer a TopTracer Driving Range experience. Download the app before you get there to play around with top shot-tracking golf technology.

Conclusion

Whether you’re a novice, an intermediate or a pro golfer, there’s a course to suit your style in Houston.

It’s well worth taking a few hours out of your trip to spend time surrounded by beautiful green scenery enjoying the challenge of a round of golf.
