Fort Bend County Judge KP George today announced that Fort Bend is the first urban county to fully vaccinate 86% of its population 65 and older and the first County to have over 95% of its population 65 and older vaccinated with at least one dose.

The data according to the Texas Department of State Health Services’ data dashboard, shows that Fort Bend County leads the State's 81% and 72% vaccination rate in the same categories in comparison to all other large urban jurisdictions in the region and throughout the State of Texas.

The County’s vaccination efforts can be contributed to county and community efforts to provide equity and access to vaccines for all residents. Efforts include placing vaccine sites in highly populated areas of the county, working with community partners, providers, and faith leaders to provide vaccination sites in key neighborhoods so that residents don’t have to travel far from home to get their vaccine, and a mobile unit to reach its most vulnerable residents who may be homebound, economically disadvantaged or lack access to transportation.

Community outreach efforts and partnerships have resulted in 71% of the Fort Bend population 12 and up being vaccinated with at least one dose and 61% fully vaccinated, outpacing the current national vaccine rate in the same categories.

“We are doing very well with our COVID-19 vaccine efforts because the people trust that we have their best interest at heart and in turn, they are doing the right thing and getting vaccinated. We have been working tirelessly with our Department of Health and Human Services, community partners, churches, faith leaders, and local and state elected officials to put in the work and the effort that we need to make sure that the people of Fort Bend County are healthy and safe,” said Fort Bend County Judge KP George. “This is not done by just one person, it takes all of us to move the needle forward and reach population protection.”

The County continues to work to provide access and information to the public regarding COVID-19 testing and vaccine distribution locations and hours. Efforts continue to connect with residents seeking vaccines in rural areas. High vaccination rates not only protect those who are vaccinated but also those who cannot or have not been vaccinated.

Judge George encourages those who have been administered one dose or those who have not been vaccinated to continue to adhere to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines:

Continue to wear masks

Physically distance

Socialize outdoors

Avoid crowded indoor spaces

Wash hands frequently

The County encouraged all residents to get vaccinated:

No registration is required. Walk-ups are welcome
