KIPP Texas-Houston schools offering COVID-19 vaccines to younger students, staff, and families
Style Magazine Newswire | 11/10/2021, 11:36 a.m.
KIPP Texas-Houston schools is one of the first school districts in the area offering COVID-19 vaccines to younger children. Yesterday, 85 children got their first dose of the vaccination at our first clinic for 5-11 year olds.
Tomorrow, November 11, KIPP and Legacy Community Health Clinic will offer another opportunity for our younger students to get vaccinated. The effort comes after CDC approval last week of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for kids 5 to 11 years old — our largest population of students. KIPP Texas’ “I am not throwing away my shot” campaign encourages all students, staff and families to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
KIPP Texas has nearly 15,000 students in kindergarten through fifth grade, nearly 9,000 students in KIPP Texas-Houston schools.
KIPP Texas in partnership with Legacy Community Health is hosting several clinics at KIPP schools in Houston this week offering vaccinations for 5-11 years-olds only. The pediatric vaccine formulation is different from the adult dosage. Walk-ins are welcome.
Nov. 11: 5 - 7 p.m. at KIPP Sunnyside High School,11000 Scott St., Houston, TX 77047
Nov. 13: 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. at KIPP Northeast College Prep, 9680 Mesa Drive, Houston, TX 77078
KIPP Texas is providing vaccine resources and opportunities to our students, in the words of Lin-Manuel Miranda and performed here by our students, “I am not throwing away #MyShot!” KIPP Texas believes that one of the most effective ways to protect against the COVID-19 virus and variants is to wear a face-covering and receive the vaccine for all eligible people (ages 5+). COVID-19 vaccines are free, and KIPP Texas is offering these clinics for 5-11 year olds on our campuses to increase the opportunity to protect the KIPP Texas community.
Let me know if you would be interested in visiting tomorrow’s clinic and talking to KIPP Texas’ Managing Director of Student Wellness, Dr. Maria Rivera, a bilingual public health physician and board-certified pediatrician, and families who bring their children for the vaccine.
