Sci-fi films have conquered the year 2021. The films, each and every one of them, has been a beautiful and unique cinematic experience in their own respective way. Apple TV's newest film, Finch, is no different. Comparable in its beauty to the rest, yet distinctive – one filled with hope and adventure. Finch is a message to the masses that no matter how bad things get, one must strive to continue to always move forward. And with what we have been through these past few years, it’s a must needed message.

The film follows Finch (Tom Hanks), an aerospace engineer living in a holdout in a post-apocalyptic world. A giant storm, the protagonist in this film, compels Finch to build Jeff the Robot (Caleb Landry Jones) and sets out on a cross-country adventure, leading them from St. Louis to San Francisco. With Goodyear the dog also in tote, movie watchers are treated to much needed messages about humanity as Finch teaches Jeff the Robot through light-hearted story telling.

Finch was directed by Miguel Sapochnik and written by Craig Luck and Ivor Powell. Sapochnik takes this little story about a man, his dog, and a robot and applies it to a big world to create something magical. The audience, not knowing what type of danger lies ahead, is placed into this post-apocalyptic giant world where not many people are left – and instead of leaving the movie-watcher feeling a sense of despair, Sapochnik creates an almost majestic sense of feeling.

Cinematographer Gustavo Santaolalla is simply magnificent. He displays such a captivating portrait of the film’s desert wasteland. Tom Hanks gives a wonderful performance and makes these small characters larger than life. Much like Cast Away, he gives an Oscar-worthy performance. In addition, Jones' voice acting is definitely to be noted - the way he brings Jeff the Robot to life is nothing short of amazing. This duo carries the film at any possible weak points and brings strength to every aspect of this movie.

Finch is a fun and enjoyable ride. It's a triumphant film that will definitely make even the strongest of us emotional. It doesn't need the big action sequences or the large movie screen theaters to be great, and that's what makes it good. The movie flows well - there isn't an aspect of this movie I didn't thoroughly enjoy. I hope you all have that same experience!

Rating: 10/10

Finch will be streaming on Apple TV+ Friday, November 5th.
