Lena Franklin - a rising star in the world of urban marketing through a five-year run at Interscope Records and notable contributions to campaigns for artists like Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, Rich The Kid and Summer Walker – has been appointed Vice President of Marketing, Def Jam Recordings, it was announced today by Jeff Harleston, Interim Chairman & CEO.
“Lena brings a combination of savvy, sophistication and creativity to our marketing team as she continues to grow as an executive,” said Harleston. “I’m confident she will play a significant role in driving the energy, passion, and creative direction of our marketing efforts.”
“I’m thrilled to continue my career within UMG at Def Jam Recordings,” said Franklin. “Def Jam has a rich history in breaking incredible artists. I believe that marketing is a core pillar of that success story, and I can’t wait to break the next generation of stars. I’d like to thank Jeff Harleston, Top Dawg, and Manny Smith for their ongoing support.”
Franklin officially joined Def Jam in June 2021, and immediately made her presence felt, taking the reigns on projects ranging from Alessia Cara’s new album ‘In The Meantime,’ to Kaash Paige, to the Ludacris’ new Netflix children’s show ‘Karma’s World.’ Prior to her arrival at Def Jam, Franklin spent the past five years on a path of continued growth within the urban marketing department of Interscope Records. During that tenure, she contributed to campaigns for breakout Top Dawg Entertainment acts Jay Rock, ScHoolboy Q, and Kendrick Lamar. Franklin worked closely with Rich the Kid and on LVRN artists Summer Walker and Lil Mosey. She began her career in 2014, as a College Marketing Rep at Sony Music. Ms. Franklin attended Tulane University, graduating with dual degrees in 2016, the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Composition, and Bachelor of Science in Business Management.
