Whitney Mercilus and the WithMerci Foundation have adopted Houston Independent School District’s Lamar Fleming Middle School Special Needs Department to launch a Life Skills program. Mercilus will hold a press conference on Tuesday, October 19th at 11 A.M. at Lamar Fleming Middle School (4910 Collingsworth | Houston, TX 77026). Mercilus will be joined by several WithMerci board members (NBA Legend Mario Elie, Original Texan Chester Pitts, HLSR Sheri Reed); Principal Bruce of Lamar Fleming Middle School; Yolanda Rodriguez, Assistant Superintendent; Rick Cruz, Deputy Superintendent and Alecia Bell, School Support Officer.

The NFL veteran is known for showing no mercy on the field, but off the field during the pandemic, he has gained quite a reputation for his skills in the kitchen. Mercilus will unveil a newly renovated kitchen to the kids and staff during the press conference. Mercilus will also discuss the new Life Skills program he will implement in partnership with H.I.S.D. and the staff at Fleming Middle School.

“It’s important that children and adults with disabilities are always included. Inclusion is a battle that many advocates like myself and people with disabilities are fighting daily. So, I want to do my part remove any excuses and make sure children with disabilities have the life skills needed to not only survive, but to make a difference in this world - being treated like any other citizen,” NFL veteran Whitney Mercilus.

The WithMerci Foundation adopted Fleming Middle School this year for their annual back-to-school event, Returning 2 Learning. Nearly one-thousand students were served with backpacks, school supplies and haircut vouchers. WithMerci partnered with H.I.S.D in 2017 after Hurricane Harvey, assisting the district to help get their students back on their feet. To date, Mercilus and his foundation have served nearly 3,000 children in H.I.S.D.
