On Wednesday, September 15, 2021 the Houston Minority Supplier Development Council (HMSDC) opened up the first day of its two-day 2021 Virtual Expo. This annual Expo is one of the avenues that HMSDC offers its member Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs) to increase and expand their business opportunities and growth while connecting businesses with major corporations, government agencies and institutions who need their services and products.

As part of the Expo, HMSDC presents the prestigious Rigel Awards to companies that are setting new standards and establishing best practices for corporate supplier diversity programs and MBEs who are providing outstanding service to their corporate customers. “This year’s recipient has been in the publishing business for over 30 years and has made introductions and advocated for support and recognition of the Council’s contributions to communities of color. Since its inception, he has used his relationships and influence to ensure HMSDC’s media efforts related to Expo and other Council activities are covered by mainstream and minority public relations. It is my honor to present Lorenza Butler with the President’s Award with thanks and gratitude for all you have done and things that will come,” said HMSDC President Ingrid M. Robinson.

Publisher Butler commented, “I have a desire to see businesses of color have an opportunity to major opportunities in business. When we support minority owned businesses, we are bringing jobs and income back into our communities. As it was nearly 40 years ago, it is still vital to keep the spotlight on this essential program that links corporate suppliers with minority business. I am honored to receive this prestigious award.”

Awards that were presented during the Expo were Local Corporation of the Year, Supplier of the Year, Advocate of the Year, Strategic Teaming Alliance, Each One- Reach One, Middle Market Engagement and Minority Business Development (Corporate).
