Houston Pastor's Facing Harsh Critics After Sermon Calls Out Leaders Over Harris County Bond Issue

The political change in the Harris County Office surrounding the bond issue is due to “left-wing progressives in office. That is the truth in the eyes of Houston’s Second Baptist Church pastor, Dr. Ed. Young. This, of course, is not sitting well with Democrats and the backlash is great.
Dr. Young spoke these words to congregants over the weekend as part of his series “The Church Awake according to KHOU 11.” According to the church’s website, the sermon series is intended to call the attention of believers of how an awaken church to the biblical truth can overcome a woke culture. During the sermon, Dr. Young gave supporting information of how Houston is “probably right now” the most dangerous city in America by listing the details of increased crime in the county.
This does not sit well with Democrats since Dr. Young is essentially telling all church goers to vote Republican.
The Harris County Democratic Party Chair Odus Evbagharu is already on record saying how his comments are crossing the line. The sermon also puts Second Baptist and Dr. Young in hot water with the IRS.
Second Baptist is a 501©3 organization which means they must abide by certain rules set by the IRS. Under the IRS Code section 501(c)(3) all organizations are absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office.
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner weighed on the controversy via Twitter on KHOU story post.
"Houston is not the most dangerous city in America. That is factually not true, and people should not say it to gain some political benefit. Facts from the pulpit should matter."
