The Covid-19 crisis in Texas continues to grow more and more dire, with no signs of leadership or action shown by Governor Greg Abbott to stop it.

The critical circumstances in Texas include:

The state of Texas had a staggering 33% Covid test positivity rate yesterday.

Texas already has 4.75 million positive cases and is projected to pass 5 million by the end of the week.

Covid hospitalizations in Texas have already doubled the past two weeks and tripled among children.

Most alarmingly, Texas leads the nation in child COVID-19 hospitalizations.

Meanwhile, Governor Abbott is picking fights about vaccination requirements while Texas remains only 41st in the country in the percentage of adults fully vaccinated.

Most importantly, Abbott still will not let local leaders, schools and businesses implement the policies necessary to protect their own communities.

Beto O’Rourke issued the following statement:

“As Abbott brags about stopping schools from requiring masks in the classroom, Texas leads the nation in child Covid hospitalizations. If he’s not going to take action, he needs to get out of the way and allow schools and local leaders to keep kids safe.

“Covid hospitalizations in Texas have doubled in the past two weeks. They’ve tripled among children. We’re sending more kids to the ER than any other state because Abbott refuses to lead.

“Please get vaccinated and boosted. Take care of yourself and your neighbors.”
