As we are still enjoying the high spirits of the nation's first Juneteenth, Chef Vicky V, Queen of Yum, is keeping the spirits going with her Cookbook Brunch in partnership with Kindred Stories. This month she is featuring the recipes from "Watermelon and Red Birds" cookbook by Nicole A. Taylor. "Watermelon and Red Birds" cookbook is an ode to Juneteenth that showcases traditional Juneteenth foods with a 21st-century vibe. The cookbook includes recipes like Beef Ribs with Fermented Harissa Sauce and Roasted Nectarine Sundae. Chef Vicky V will bring these mouth-watering recipes to the table for us to enjoy.
The award-winning Chef Vicky V is a native Houstonian that received her culinary training at the JNA Institute of Culinary Arts in Philadelphia. Since moving back to Houston, she has brought joy to the culinary food scene as a Chef Consultant, Food Stylist, Influencer, Media Producer, Black Restaurant Liaison, and owner of the Honeysuckle Inn. She rebranded herself as the Queen of Yum in 2020 with a powerful engine of followers called the "yumcrumb" behind her. She has worked with major brands like HEB, Glory Greens, and Alto Luxury ride share. In June, Chef Vicky graced the skylawn of POST Houston as the moderator for Kindred Stories' "Cocktails and Convo with Chef Kwame Onwauachi" to talk about his new cookbook. "My America, Recipes from a Young Black Chef."
Her radiant spirit is one that not only comes through her personality but also through her food. With the Houston black food scene exploding at the rate it is going, Chef Vicky is right on time with her Cookbook Brunch. Her vision for the Cookbook Brunch allows her dinner party guest to experience the flavors cookbook authors want their readers to have. Honestly, what better way to experience a cookbook than having a trained chef do it for you. With her partnership with Kindred Stories, located in the heart of Third Ward, the Cookbook Brunch is creating a fantastic way to give back to the community and support black cookbook authors.
If you have never experienced Chef Vicky V's food, the Honeysuckle Inn is an excellent way to start. These brunches are a small intimate setting of 12 seats allowing you to fully immerse yourself into the experience of her food presentation. Back in April, she brought us the sophisticated High Tea Bunch Experience, and with the Cookbook Brunch, we can assure you that this will not be any short of that. Buy your tickets at Eventbrite.com.
On July 26th, Chef Vicky V will also partner with Houston's Avocado Crack for their Virtual Dinner Experience for a Great Cause. The Virtual Dinner experience, hosted by Avocado Crack and The People's Club, benefits Educated Foodie LLC and the fight to end child hunger. RSVP and find out more at avocadocrack.com
