About 300 degrees will be conferred during Prairie View A&M University’s 111th Summer Commencement Convocation. The ceremony will be held in the William “Billy” J. Nicks, Sr. Building (Baby Dome) on Saturday, August 13 at 9 a.m. for the University’s colleges and school.
PVAMU announced today that its speaker for the event is Roshunda Jones-Koumba ’03, ‘07, a Prairie View A&M alumna and award-winning teaching artist and theatre consultant. In June, Jones-Koumba received the 2022 Excellence in Theatre Education Award, which is a special Tony Award that honors educators. A panel selected Jones-Koumba from among more than 5,000 entries.
As an educator for 18 years in the Aldine Independent School District, Jones-Koumba is also the proud recipient of the prestigious Stephen Schwartz Musical Theatre Teacher of the Year Award and the International Thespian Society Inspirational Theatre Educator of the Year Award, among many others. This summer’s graduation event is expected to last about two hours, with each graduate getting the opportunity to cross the stage, hear their name and receive their degree. All guests will need a ticket for admission into the Baby Dome. Tickets will be distributed through each college and school to graduates who have been certified to participate in the ceremony.
For friends, families and guests unable to attend the commencement ceremony in person, PVAMU will stream the event at pvamu.edu/stream. It will also be streamed on the University’s official YouTube channel at youtube.com/pvamu.
