On Thursday, July 28, 2022, Congressman Al Green released the following statement:
“This morning on the House floor I had the opportunity to thank my colleagues for supporting passage of my historic Slavery Remembrance Day Resolution. My bill, which passed in the House yesterday with a final vote of 218 – 207, denounces slavery, honors the lives of the enslaved, and brings us one step closer to creating a National Day of Remembrance for slavery on August 20th (with the ultimate goal being for a U.S. President to issue a proclamation declaring August 20th as Slavery Remembrance Day). You can find my entire one-minute speech below.”
