Joe Carmouche – Houston Jazz Legend For Decades
One Of Houston's Most Sought-After Jazz Musicians

Joe Carmouche is considered to be one of the most in demand jazz musicians who is a Houston grown product. Best known for eloquently plucking the strings of guitar, he packs venues around town to the delight of jazz aficionados of the young and old.
Starting out playing in 1979, Carmouche has been living his dream of playing jazz music for over forty years. In-tuned to what his fans crave, he has the ability to read the room and select the perfect vibe to set with his music. Audiences respond with foot taping, taking slow swings on the floor, or just sit in enjoyment as Carmouche speaks to their soul.
He has shared the stage with such great artists as Joe Sample, Kirk Whalum, Kenny Burrell, and others. Widely recognized for his artistry, he has been called the Minister of Soul in some circles. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee awarded him a Congressional Certificate of Recognition.
Anyone who has not been to the Legends Jazz Café [Now Closed. . .] to hear the legend in person is doing themselves a disservice as Carmouche is one of Houston’s treasurers. His award-winning band has opened for Michael Franks, Boney James, Jeff Lorber, Norman Brown, and Jonathan Butler, and many more. However, if one can’t make it out to the café, just take a listen to one of his four CDs - After Hours, A Touch of Jazz, Art of The Groove, and All My Best.
Carmouche attended Kashmere High School, where he was a member of the internationally acclaimed Kashmere Stage Band. His ties with the band garnered a cameo appearance in the movie ThunderSoul, a documentary on Kashmere’s band. He had his first professional gig at the age of 16 with Bubbha Thomas & The Lightmen, where he backed such jazz legends as Kirk Whalum, Arnett Cobb, and David “Fathead” Newman. Just like many poured into him as he was growing up, he gives back the same. He often shares his love of jazz and knowledge with others. He never forgets to give back, often lending his time and talent to other up and coming artists.
One thing is for sure. No matter what Carmouche is doing, if it involves jazz music, he is in his happy place.
