Senator Borris Miles calls on Texans to speak at the TCEQ Sunset Advisory Commission Meeting in Austin, Texas, on June 22, 2022, to let Sunset know how TCEQ has been negatively impacting their communities.

"Urban and rural communities across Texas have been fighting for environmental justice for decades. From concrete batch plants to cancer-causing creosote sites and other hazardous waste facilities, the TCEQ has been rubber-stamping permits for these industries. Time and again, the people speak out against these facilities that keep polluting our great state, and rarely is an action taken. That cycle needs to end," said Senator Borris L. Miles.

Every 12 years, the State of Texas conducts a top-to-bottom review of each state agency, which can result in operational changes in how an agency works. TCEQ will have to prove that they are fulfilling its mission to reduce and prevent pollution and protect the state's public health.

"I am sponsoring a bus from Houston to allow citizens to testify before the Sunset Advisory Commission and speak out of the problems they have experienced with TCEQ and offer solutions to improve the agency," said Senator Miles. "But, I know that the issues we face in Houston are the same in other communities throughout our state, urban and rural. TCEQ needs major changes, and I am calling on Texans to join me at the Texas Capitol to share their experiences working with TCEQ and what changes need to be made."
