Today, the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit vacated an injunction that prohibited Attorney General Ken Paxton from enforcing SB1’s anti-solicitation provision against the Harris County Elections Administrator.

County Attorney Christian D. Menefee, Harris County’s chief civil legal officer, gave the following statement:

“I’m glad the courts made clear that Attorney General Ken Paxton does not have the power to seek monetary penalties from election officials who simply want to encourage Texans to exercise their right to vote by mail. This war on election officials has to stop. Government should be trying to expand opportunities for voters, not restricting their access to the polls and punishing the hard-working folks who run our elections.”
