Dressed in their Sunday best, Houstonians dined for children at the annual Big Brunch: Building Blocks to the Future – A Celebration of Early Childhood, at the Ballroom at Bayou Place. Hosted by statewide organization CHILDREN AT RISK, nearly 300 guests enjoyed culinary delights created by some of Houston’s best chefs from 1751 Sea and Bar, Ballroom at Bayou Place Catering, Bludorn, Calavera Golfstrommen, Chivos, Frank’s Americana Revival, and Heads & Tails Seafood. Brunch goers chose Heads & Tails Seafood’s shrimp and grits entrée, from chef Roy Burks, as their favorite.
CHILDREN AT RISK president and CEO Dr. Bob Sanborn and KPRC-2 journalist and meteorologist Khambrel Marshall emceed the program which also was a chance to honor champions of early childhood education, Collaborative for Children, SEARCH’s House of Tiny Treasures, and Small Steps Nurturing Center.
A big thanks to Steve and Laura Jones who chaired the event and helped to raise over $150,000 for children! Popular auction items included an African Safari, and “Party on the Patio at The Ballroom at Bayou Place” for 100 guests.
Guests also wore their finest hats to compete in the “Best Hat Contest”. And the winners were: Krista Frazier, Anne Nemer, and Janette Marx.
