Commissioner Rodney Ellis Calls for Apartment Complex to Immediately Correct Horrible Living Conditions

Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis joined the call for Sterlingshire Apartments’ management to correct the deplorable living conditions that include no air conditioning, rodents and nonworking appliances.

“Honestly, I’m enraged,” Commissioner Ellis said about the living conditions. “It should be criminal for a slumlord to force people to live in these unthinkable conditions. Worse yet, most of the apartments are home to children. Children should have the opportunity to thrive regardless of the ZIP code where they are born.”

Elected officials and community leaders at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 23 will conduct a walk through at the complex, 9002 Sterlingshire St. in Houston, to inspect the “inhumane living conditions” that residents endure. Some tenants have reported that they were threatened with evictions when they complained.

“Everyone deserves to live in a safe, healthy and dignified home,” Commissioner Ellis. “It’s a fundamental human right. In Harris County, we’re working on ensuring everyone has access to clean, healthy affordable housing.”
