Children count on adults to help them feel safe. The war in Ukraine is a global event and nothing of this magnitude has happened since World War II - not in the young children’s lifetime.

“Its important to talk to children about what’s happening in Ukraine. It is a global event receiving massive amounts of coverage, which kids may become confused, worried or frightened. They need trusted adults that they feel they can go to and who will tell them the truth,” said Parenting expert and educator Kimberly A. Morrow.

It may be sufficient for children to understand that there is fighting between Russia and the Ukraine. However, people around the world are calling for peace. Different governments and humanitarian organizations and individuals are providing help for the people of Ukraine.

Here are some tips:

Ask your child what they think is happening.

Allow them a chance to share their thoughts this will make them feel empowered.

Let them know that you’re there to listen and reassure them.

The U.S government and others are doing what they can to put pressure on the Russian government to stop the war.
