Nationally recognized activist and Honey Brown Hope Foundation Founder Tammie Lang Campbell will receive the Justice Medal Award from The Chad Cooper Company on Broadway (Times Square), who is bringing the highly anticipated, nationwide tour of “Justice On Trial: Black Lives Matter Too – The Play” to Houston.

Campbell will be honored with the Justice Medal Award for her civil rights advocacy work that aligns with the theme of “Justice On Trial: Black Lives Matter Too – The Play.” She will be honored at a ceremony prior to the play that will be shown Saturday, June 4, 2022 from 7 – 9 pm at Willowridge High School Performing Arts Theatre.

This off-Broadway production is in a courtroom setting where two civil rights attorneys are suing the US Justice Department for repatriations for descendants of slaves (African Americans). To help convince the mixed-race jury, it features "traveler expert witnesses" portraying black history icons Harriet Tubman, Medgar Evers & Emmett Till. The case will be decided by a mixed jury that deliberates the request for reparations for the slave descendants while comparing the then and now. Despite addressing past and modern issues of race, the play is suitable for all ages. The goal is to get people to think about the lasting vestiges of slavery and the country's evolving racial issues, including police-involved shootings.

“I’m from the same county Emmet Till was murdered and my children are only one generation removed from segregation – reparations is an economic justice issue and I’m grateful to have my advocacy work recognized by a national production shedding light on this important topic,” said Campbell. “Art and activism have a strong historical connection and “Justice On Trial: Black Lives Matter Too – The Play” will serve as a must-see reminder about the lasting effects of slavery still plaguing African-Americans.”
