Today, State Representative Joe Deshotel endorsed Chris Hollins to serve as the next Mayor of Houston, becoming the first member of the Texas House of Representatives to weigh in on the race. Serving 22 years in public office, Rep. Deshotel expressed confidence in Chris’s ability to effectively lead and deliver results.

“I’m endorsing Chris Hollins for Mayor of Houston because his ability to effectively lead and manage is unmatched. The impact Chris had as Harris County Clerk was remarkable, eclipsing what some politicians have achieved in their entire careers,” said Rep. Deshotel.

“Houston will thrive as a result of Chris’s fresh leadership and bold ideas, and a thriving Houston is good for Texas.” Rep. Deshotel represents the 22nd Legislative District, which comprises most of Jefferson County. An attorney and businessman, Deshotel has served in the Texas Legislature for the past 22 years and currently chairs the Land and Resource Management Committee. Prior to serving in the legislature, Representative Deshotel served on the Beaumont City Council and was appointed by Governor Mark White to the Job Training Coordinating Council and Lamar University Board of Regents.

“I’m honored to receive an endorsement from Rep. Deshotel, a true statesman who fights tirelessly for working families in our state capitol,” said Hollins. “Rep. Deshotel understands that moving Houston forward is essential to moving Texas forward, and our campaign is excited to have him on board.”

A graduate of Lamar University and Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University, Deshotel is a member of the NAACP, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity.
