On Wednesday, October 19, 2022, Congressman Al Green released the following statement:
“I am delighted to be at NRG Park today to celebrate its 20th anniversary of being one of the major economic engines not only for Harris County, but also for the City of Houston and beyond. NRG Park is a 350-acre complex which includes NRG Stadium, NRG Astrodome, NRG Arena, and NRG Center. It hosts over 500 top-tier events year-round, including sports performances, trade shows, conferences, and concerts. Additionally, it is the home of the Houston Texans football team and world-famous Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. NRG Park’s ability to host so many world-class events on a regular basis have positioned it to have an incalculable economic impact on the Greater Houston area. The estimated 5.5 million visitors it welcomes on an annual basis pump additional capital into Houston by way of their spending beyond the walls of NRG Park. Over the course of approximately the last 20 years, the total economic impact of NRG Park to the region has been in the tens of billions of dollars. Furthermore, NRG has extended the hand of friendship during times of great crisis, including during Hurricane Katrina by providing temporary mass shelter and life-saving resources, as well as during the COVID-19 pandemic by setting up vaccination sites and food drives. Congratulations NRG! It is truly an honor to house you in my Ninth Congressional District. Here’s to 20 more years.”
