The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, led by 9X Grammy-award-winning Wynton Marsalis, will bring its “Spirit of Swing” to Houston November 1-3, in a series of performances and classes that will celebrate and expand appreciation for this great American music. The musical director for the concert and residency will be Jazz Houston's Co-Founder/Artistic Director Vincent Gardner, a 20-plus year member and Lead Trombonist of the JLCO.

Appearing live on the Barbara Bush Plaza of the Central Houston Public Library, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis will present an interactive, hand clapping, foot stomping concert for Houston-area students.

The 3-Day Residency will include:

  • an interactive concert for Houston-area students at the Barbara Bush Plaza of the Central Houston Public Library;

  • a day visiting HISD and Klein ISD schools presenting masterclasses and workshops for the students;

  • a concert for the public at the Wortham Theater with an open Soundcheck/Q&A for students;

  • a post-concert VIP Meet-and-Greet with the Artists.

Made up of 15 of the finest soloists, ensemble players, and arrangers in jazz music today, The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, was founded in the mid-1980s in a bid to expand the global jazz community, especially among young people. Jazz Houston will be presenting the JLCO in Houston for the second time, and the expanded education/performance residency is the first of its kind for the orchestra in the city. The organization stimulates the growth and appreciation of the music through its education programs, including The Jazz Houston Youth Orchestra, in-school and after-school jazz education programs, and through its concert presentations.
