Jamie R. Wright, a Houston resident and survivor of domestic violence, has launched a fundraising campaign to provide resources and safe spaces for survivors of domestic violence.
According to The National Institute of Health, up to 1 in 3 women in the United States are impacted by domestic violence. Wright knows firsthand the devastating effects of domestic violence, having found herself in a situation where she was broke, broken, ashamed, hopeless, and homeless during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Survivors of domestic violence need access to safe places, like emergency shelters and long-term housing, to go to when they flee abusive situations," said Wright. "Ending domestic violence is not just a family or relational issue; it's a public health and safety issue that we all need to address collectively."
The fundraising campaign aims to provide resources and safe spaces for survivors and their children. Donations, no matter how small, will go a long way in helping to make a difference in the lives of those affected by domestic violence.
"Your contribution will help ensure that survivors have a chance at a brighter future," said Wright. "Together, we can make a difference in the lives of survivors of domestic violence. Let's come together as a community and show our support for those who need it the most."
Wright's journey of overcoming homelessness and successfully becoming a homeowner was captured on HGTV’s, House Hunters TV Show, "Dancing into Homeownership in Houston", which will air on April 12th, 2023 at 9 pm CST.
