Today, Thursday, August 3, 2023, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra (pronounced Ha-vee-air Beh-sehr-rah) will visit Las Vegas, Nevada, to highlight President Biden’s historic lower cost prescription drug law (the bipartisan Inflation Reduction Act) and HHS’s Health Workforce Initiative.
In the morning, Secretary Becerra and Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) will tour Cano Health to learn more about their primary care services for Nevada seniors. Following the tour, Secretary Becerra will lead a roundtable discussion on the lower cost prescription drug law.
Thanks to the new law, a month's supply of each Medicare-covered insulin is capped at $35, and recommended, preventive vaccines are now free for people with Medicare prescription drug coverage. Furthermore, for the first time, the law allows Medicare to negotiate better prices for select prescription drugs. The Inflation Reduction Act is delivering lower prescription drug costs, making health insurance more affordable, and making the economy work for working families.
In the afternoon, Secretary Becerra and Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) will visit Roseman University of Health Sciences to highlight HHS’s efforts to strengthen the pipeline for those interested in pursuing health careers, including the HHS Health Workforce Initiative.
