On Saturday, August 5, 2023, Congressman Al Green will unite with NAACP, elected officials, as well as faith and community leaders in support of students, parents, teachers, and school personnel against the inanity of transforming learning centers (libraries) into places for punishment.
“I adamantly oppose the fatuous plan to transform our learning centers (libraries) into places for punishment, which is being imposed by Governor Abbott’s surrogate plenipotentiary. This is but another step in the Governor’s plan/vision to take over an independent school district, take down the public school system, and stand up a private voucher school system reminiscent of that which was proposed in 1956 by ultra-conservative Milton Friedman to thwart the Brown v. Board of Education decision mandating the desegregation of schools. If the Governor prevails with his disdainful scheme, America the beautiful will become a less beautiful America.” Congressman Al Green stated.
