Gilbert Garcia files to run for Mayor of Houston

Gilbert Garcia officially entered the race for Houston's mayoral election on August 10, 2023. Aiming to instigate change in City Hall, Garcia introduced his extensive "Pledge to Houston," detailing his strategic plans for the first 100 days of his potential tenure. His commitments revolve around public safety, transparency, infrastructure improvements, and eliminating unethical "pay to play" practices.

Currently serving as the Managing Partner at Garcia Hamilton & Associates (GHA) in Houston, Texas, Garcia oversees assets exceeding $21 billion in premium bonds. His notable achievements have earned him the nickname "The Texas Bond King." A Texan native, Garcia's educational journey includes a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Yale University in 1985. He entered the financial sector at Salomon in 1985, eventually becoming the company's first Hispanic Vice President. Returning to Texas in 1990, he joined GHA, becoming Managing Partner in 2008. GHA is a fully employee-owned certified MBE firm.

Garcia and his firm have received numerous accolades from respected institutions like Institutional Investor Magazine, Houston Business Journal, and more. With a history of public service, Garcia served as a trustee for over 14 years and chaired the Houston Metro for six years. Under his leadership, the metro system received accolades like the 2015 Transit Agency of the Year for North America. He is also known for advocating diversity in finance and contributing to the SEC FACA committee.
