Houston Gardens – Meet at 7014 Darien St., Houston, TX 77028

“Harvey happened 6 years ago while I was on City Council. We rolled up our sleeves to mobilize hundreds of volunteers to get to work – going door-to-door to ensure that some of our most vulnerable residents (lower-income seniors) were not being left behind. I have continued that work, and will continue it as the next Congresswoman for the 18th Congressional District. We must ensure that those who suffer in silence are able to fully recover,” Edwards states. Many areas within the 18th Congressional District were hit hard by Harvey, and not everyone has fully recovered.

Edwards is the frontrunner in the 18th Congressional District race. She recently announced that during the first couple of weeks of her campaign, she has been endorsed by the pre-eminent national African-American PAC, Higher Heights PAC. She also announced 11 days after her Congressional launch, she had already raised over $600,000, which marked a very strong start to her campaign.

As a native Houstonian and former At-Large Houston City Council Member, Edwards is running to succeed U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson’s Lee who is seeking to serve as Houston’s next mayor. Amanda is a graduate of Eisenhower High School in Aldine I.S.D., Emory University and Harvard Law School. Prior to elected office, Amanda practiced law as a municipal finance law at Vinson & Elkins LLP and Bracewell LLP in Houston. Amanda also has extensive experience doing community building and non-profit work. Edwards is a life-long member of St. Monica Catholic Church.
